The first meeting of the
Bay State Antique Auto Club was held at the home of Charles
DeStefano on October 8, 1968. The original suggestion
for the name of the club was “The Metropolitan Antique
Auto Club” but in November the name “Bay State
Antique Auto Club” was put in place by a 10
- 2 vote. Membership dues were $5.00 per person.
Our founding members were: Charles and Victoria DeStefano,
Earle and Ruth Hartshorn, Harvey Vogel, Edward Gooley,
William Stevens, Fred Porfert, and George Hughes.

| 1968 |
The first club officers were, at President-
Lester Wax, Vice President- Ed Gooley, Treasurer-Charles
DeStefano, Secretary and Membership- George Hughes. |

|
| 1969 |
Membership increased to 30 members. |
| |
The club’s primary goal was to secure a suitable meeting
place.
Started to draft the club’s by-laws and to utilize
name badges.
On June 17th members started meeting at St. John’s Methodist
Church in Oakdale Square in Dedham, MA.
The first annual Christmas party was held at Artie’s
Fireside Restaurant in Dedham. |

| 1970 |
Membership increase to 43 members. |

The first newsletter was introduced and was 3 pages long
and cost $0.06 to mail.
In November Lester Wax introduced the idea to have a
“Trading Bee” for the following year and the date was
set for July 11th at the Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline. |

| 1971 |
Dues are to remain $5.00 and spouses were
to pay $3.00. |
| |
The clubs by-laws were voted upon and approved.
The first BSAAC Trading Bee was considered a success
with 36 vendor spaces sold with a $116.00 profit.
On June 24th the club officially became incorporated.
The club had 14 events, parades, and tours … everything
from the Breakdown Tour to the Frostbite Tour. |

| 1972 |
Held the first club auction … proceeds $23.00. |

Postage increased to $0.08 due to 7 pages of information.
The first “Fun Rally and Swap Meet” was held on September
10th in Canton, MA. |

| 1973 |
The Draper Estate in Canton was the site of
the Second Annual Fall Meet. |
| |
Club Member True Hagman proposed the creation of a club
library. |

| 1974 |
5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY |
| |
Started the “man and Woman of the Year”
award to the member “who helped the club most throughout
the year.
In April the first “Kick-Off” Social was held. This
was the first of many to come.
For the summer months the meetings were held at the Larz
Anderson Museum.
Our Canton Fall Meet had 89 cars and 24 vendors.
Founding member Charles DeStefano passed away and the
club dedicated an award in his honor to be presented to
the “Outstanding Member of the Year”. |

Our 74th meeting of the BSAAC
was called to order on Tuesday, February 18th at 8:12
p.m. at the Larz Anderson Museum. |

Voted to forgo the fall meet in Canton in favor of a summer
meet. This meet was then held on July 13th at the
Larz Anderson Museum and earned $24.05. |

| 1976 |
Our meetings were moved to the Dedham Community
House in march. |
| |
Abel Ford of Revere became our sponsor for our July 18th
show. |
| |
|
| 1977 |
Our newsletter cost $26.00 to publish and
stamps increase to $0.13. |

Muzi Ford City in Needham, MA. was our site and new sponsor
for our summer car show. Fifty-six vendors and 152 cars
showed. |

| 1978 |
10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY |

Celebrated on October 17th at
the 116th club meeting.
Due to the clubs growth, meetings were moved to the
Allin Congregational Church mid-year.
Auction income reached $113.00. |

| 1979 |
The first Fall Flea market was organized at
Neponset Valley Dodge in Norwood, MA. |
| |
|
| 1980 |
The 9th Annual Car Show was held at the Endicott
Estate on July 13th in Dedham, MA. Neponset Valley Dodge
was our sponsor. |

|
| 1981 |
Clair Auto became our show sponsor and more
than 300 cars were on display. |
| |
Membership reached 125 and dues were now $10.00 per family
to help offset the cost of our newsletter.
The club lost its site for the fall flea market and it was
cancelled. |

| 1982 |
Split the pot made its debut. |
| |
A Spring Social was held at the Sherwood Restaurant – Starlight
Room in Stoughton, MA. (Now known as Alex’s).
Our main show drew 419 cars and 83 flea market vendors
attended.
The November flea market was held at Bezema Buick and
all the vendor spaces were sold out. |

15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY |

In August the club held a “Members
Only Auto Show” at Ridge Hill Reservation in Needham.
The fall flea market was held at Rodman Ford in Foxboro,
MA. |

| 1984 |
This years car show had 112 vendor spaces,
41 cars in the car corral and 500 cars registered. |
| |
The Club also served 900 hamburgers, 400 sausages, 650
hot dogs, 39 dozen donuts, 1100 cups of coffee, and
went trough 100 cases of soda.
Due to the success of the July show no fall flea market
was held. |

| 1985 |
Membership now stands at 167 members. |
| |
Meetings were held for 4 months at the Italian American
Club in Dedham.
Our 14th Annual Car Show brought 626 antique cars and
was highlighted in the Patriot Ledger newspaper.

| 1986 |
Our 15th Annual Car Show outdid all of our
previous events drawing 670 cars along with 160 vendors. |

A $200 “Tool Award” was awarded to an outstanding Dedham
High School Auto Shop student.

| 1987 |
Helping out at a 1950’s Fair at the Endicott
Estate over 481 children were given rides around the estate
in various antique cars. |

| 1988 |
20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY |
| |
Membership reads 206 members. |
| |

| 1989 |
The newsletter now costs $68.75 to print and
postage was $30.50. |
| |
The club became involved with the installation of new outside
lighting at the Endicott Estate. |

| 1990 |
Due to rising “club cost” membership dues
went to $15.00 per family membership. |

Satellite parking plans were discussed to aid our big show. |
| |
|
| 1991 |
Celebrated our 20th Anniversary of our car
show and special t-shirts were printed. |

The club's annual picnic was held at the maplewood Campgrounds
in Easton, MA. |

| 1992 |
Plans were set in place to celebrate next
years 25th Anniversary. |
| |
Clair International once again was our sponsor for the July
show in which 235 vendors and 798 antique and special
interest cars participated. |

Today, in the year 2008, the Bay State Antique Auto Club is financially secure and has over 250 family memberships along with 16 Charter members. In our 39 year history we have had 22 different Presidents, 29 Vice Presidents, 16 Treasurers, 27 Secretaries and 30 Membership Chairpersons.
We will be holding our 37th Annual Car Show on July 13th and our Vintage Era Car Show on September 21st. We would like to encourage everyone to drop on by our shows or attend our monthly meetings (meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month except December and January at 7:30 pm at the Endicott Estate in Dedham, MA).
